A quick google search found answers at money saving expert.... 6-8 weeks, though someone routinely waited 12 weeks, and if space is available, it may
go airmail... |

I think it depends on the stamps. I ordered 2 sets of the A-Z ones and they took about 5 weeks to deliver. No email, nothing. One phonecall by me to
find out delay. |

Ok...I have some new 1st class stamps ( so worth 60p) and some old commemorative issues with a 27p value printed on them. Can I use one of each to
make up 87p?
I know that I can use old 1st class stamps as if they are of equivalent value of the new 1st class, but I wanted to make sure the old 27p ones are not
invalid and are still worth 27p |

They are still valid, go ahead and use them. I recently used a 1st class, an old 25p and a 2p to make up the postage. |

In case anyone is interested in the length of time for surface mail from Canada to UK:
Someone mailed me a package surface mail from Ontario on 24th May, and it arrived today, 27th June.
Rather sooner than I expected :-) |

For those wondering about buying the GB Gold Medal Winners miniature sheets.... I found http://www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder link via a forum at http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/home.php
Not all post offices will have the stamps. Some will have them next day (within 24 hours), and some others will have them the following week. You can
enter postcode/town, and select a service (e.g. Gold Medal Next Day).... None in my area will be doing next day! I have put my mother on the case!
The rowing duo should reach participating post offices by noon.
The stamps will be in a miniature sheet of 6 first class stamps, cost is at face value.

No gold stamps for me today as although my Post Office is getting the stamps the next day, the delivery man left without delivering them! |

Oh, apparently, the Gold medal stamps can be sold individually (single stamps), via scissors (not perforated). |

Really? I asked at my Post Office and they told me I had to buy a miniature sheet, but that was yesterday before the stamps had been released so maybe
they had their information wrong. I really hope it's true as I'd like to buy every gold medal winner stamp but can't afford to buy six of each, £3.60
soon adds up. I fear as you say they'll sell out before I get there though, hopefully there will be lots more available when they release them to Post
Offices a week later. |

However, singles won't be available online, from what I've read elsewhere on the web.
They also should be available for a year as miniature sheets online/mail order (most stamps issues are available for a year).... |

I got some yesterday, but messed up getting the first day cancellation on my maxicard by forgetting that I had to mail it.
I can't afford all of the mini sheets either.. or the time and the petrol consumption to keep going to the nearest post office that is receiving the
next day ones ..........am going to hope I can get a set of individual ones when they rerelease them later |

I haven't been able to go to Truro (one of the 500 Post Offices) because I have been sick. Seen GP this morning and he thinks I've got
Gallstones. |

Sorry to hear you are poorly, acornishmaidinzelah....hope the doctors will get you feeling better very soon.
I don't know how the Post Office staff will get on with separating the individual stamps from the mini sheets. It will be very fiddly, because the
stamps are the pre-gummed peel-off type, and there is not a huge amount of margin to cut through between the individual stamps. |

It's worth pointing out, they are self adhesive so the scissors method isn't a problem.
The first batch was delivered to our post office this morning (Bradley Wiggins and the Women's Pairs rowers, Heather Stanning and Helen Glover). They
were happy to cut the sheet for me. |

My Post Office are still only selling them as full minisheets
Can anyone explain or point me to a website that clearly explains how to get first day cancellation postmarks? I'd really like to get one for one of
the gold medal winners. Do I have to put my addressed postcard with the gold medal winners stamp into a stamped envelope and send it to a special
address where they do the postmark? |
