What is a Postcrossing Meetup/Gathering? Here's Your Answer
I have never been to a meet-up before, but I may be hosting one soon. Can you please give me some ideas of activities that postcrossing meet ups do
around the world? |

I have the same question in my mind, would any seasoned meet-up hosts be kind enough to help us? |

What is a Postcrossing Meetup/Gathering? Here's Your Answer
I assume that you are like me and wonder "What do you do at a meet-up? Most people usually say "I don't know but I like to start one!" After much
searching for the answer, I think I can put it into some kind of context:
A meet-up/gathering is an event where people can come together and complete the act of postcrossing!
A few ways to invite people
-send a invite via postcard or email
-this fourm
-if you are part of a letter writing listing, see if you can invite people from other places.
They usually can be a day event or a weekend event, which ever seems to fit for the people attending. Places that are good to meet up are ones that
have food or near places that sell postcards. Coffee shops, bookstore, or any place can do, as long there is a dedicated spot that everyone meets
up.
There are many different ways to run the meet-ups. I would suggest once everyone (or mostly everyone) is there, to have an introduction which includes
the day(s) schedule and an icebreaker. Onces that is settled, let the postcrossing begin!
What should you bring to a postcrossing event? It depends on what you want to do. I would suggest that everyone should bring a pen, stamps, and a set
of addresses to send. There is an option for the actual postcards, here are some ideas that I came across different meetups:
-create a postcard that represents the event (i.e. vistaprint.com)
-have everyone bring postcards from their own collection:
here, you can swap, show and tell, whatever you want.
-scavanger hunt around town for postcards (this works well in tourist areas)
-make the postcards during the meetup!
Once you have the postcards ready to go, now its time for what I like to call "the sit down". Here, everyone comes together and starts to fill out the
post. People can either bring list of addresses, put the address on one postcard and pass it down to the next person to fill out. If the person
recieveing the postcard doesnt mind sharing their address, you can swap addresses with other people. Remember, we do protect people's privacy if they
dont want their address out in the world. So always make sure we respect people's privacy.
Once the cards are filled out, have everyone deliver their mail at the nearest mailbox or post office.
There are many variations to meet-ups, this is just a short guild to what you can do with yours. If you have anyother suggestions for meet-ups, please
feel free to add on.
A great book to reference mail/postcard art or basic understanding of the world of sending post, I recommend reading "Good Mail Day" by Jennie
Hinchcliff and Carolee Gilligan Wheeler.
Have fun at your future meet-ups!
