What stamps do you use?
At the moment, there only seems to be two $1.60 stamps available - the dingo pup and skiing man.
I'm sure I'll be bored of those soon! Does anyone else change it up? And if so, do you use three .60c stamps or is there a better cheaper way of doing
it?
I know it's only .20c difference, but you know, it can all add up! Can you even buy .40c stamps? |

If you use domestic stamps you are required to pay an additional 10% for GST.
You can get .05 .10c and .20c stamps also if you wish to do it that way.
I often use domestic stamps because I love to be different. |

Oh! Of course - the GST. *sigh*
I suppose it's..... $1.76 then. May as well use the three .60c stamps, but making up the cost differently could be nice. My post office guy would hate
me though. Sometimes I feel like asking if I can just see the drawer and I'll just pick. :p |

That's exactly what my post office does. They bring out their huge box of stamps and just let me rifle through them myself. Plus they hold entire
sheets of new editions for me when they come in because they know I will want them |

You can also try asking for $1.55 + 5c International Stamps and if your lucky they will still have some $1.50 + 10c International Stamps.
I find when sending letters and wants lots of stamps, i use domestic (+GST).
5c, 10c, 20c, 30c, (no more 50c stamps) 55c, 60c, $1.20, $1.80
If i go into the city, i usually just hand over a written list of the stamps i want and how many. If i go to my local, i usually just ask them to make
up an amount and they find the stamps for it (as they are quite limited).
All their stamps are in books filed by stamp cost. I am not too picky in what stamps i receive. But i'm sure once the city post office is refurbished,
i will be hassling the stamp collection section... |

You can also ask for the $1.65 international stamps too - they are the standard rate for letters to Asian countries, so most Post Offices should have
them. I use them as an alternative to the $1.60 stamps, as it's only 5c more expensive! These seem to get new issues a bit more often too. You
should be able to get a baby kangaroo one (from the same set as the dingo pup $1.60) and I think there might be a golf $1.65 around too.
I must admit, I am using 3 x 60c stamps from the Mythical Creatures issue on cards to my favourite stamp-loving swappers at the moment. They are just
fantastic! |

In about one week's time two $1.50 Christmas International stamps will be available in post offices. I especially love the Christmas Island one with
Santa and the animals

Pretty! I like those. Can they be used on postcards or just envelopes with 'card only'?
I finally got some $1.55 stamps today! I've been asking but no one seemed to have them or willing to help me out. One guy even told me they don't make
$1.50 or $1.55 anymore... |

Those $1.50 and $1.55 were last year's Christmas stamps.
My post office outlet had quite a few of those left over so is happy to sell them to me with the extra stamps to make up $1.60.
He also warned me about the last price rise, so I was able to buy some of the international stamps for letters plus the extra so that gave me a range
of stamps for a while. |

They might be similar but they aren't the same. These are new issues from the 31st of October 2011. You can see them in the stamp bulletin. |

Last year's Christmas stamps were $1.30 each. I still have a few of them left, and I tend to use them wisely, because I don't want them to run out too
quickly
And there are a few ways to get different International stamps.
There is this $1.35 Grose River Gorge one
http://shop.auspost.com.au/stamps/stamps-issues/gorgeous-australia/...
The good old $1.45 koala one
http://shop.auspost.com.au/stamps/stamps-issues/australian-bush-bab...
The $1.50 Bay of Fires one.
http://shop.auspost.com.au/stamps/stamps-issues/australian-beaches/...
And this $1.55 Lake Eyre one
http://shop.auspost.com.au/stamps/stamps-issues/lake-eyre/sku/16794...
Those ones are still on sale, and can be purchased from the Auspost website, but what I usually do is to talk to my local LPO and ask them to order
everything for me. They're a family business operated by a couple, and they get postal products at a discount price from Auspost and sell them at full
price, so they do make money from it, and are always happy to help me and other costumers with it.
Apart from those high-value International stamps, there are International stamps of small denominations as well. The 5, 10, 25 and 30 cents are quite
common, and again, I think family business LPOs might be happy to order them on request.

Does anyone know if the Christmas stamps can be used on postcards or just the standard card in an envelope with 'card only' noted? |

Are you referring to the $1.50 stamp?
If so, yes they can be used on postcards. |

Yes, the $1.50 international ones. I thought so, but when I asked the post office person they said postcards were still $1.60 - I didn't argue but I
thought it was strange. |

Well I bought a heap of them to add to my stamp stash on their issue date last week and the ladies I always go to told me they're fine to use for the
holiday season. |

The only reference I can find is this from the Aus post website
| Quote: |
When choosing Christmas cards, senders should remember to select standard card sizes (no larger than 130mm x 240mm) to qualify for the 55c stamp rate
for Australia and $1.50 stamp rate for overseas. |
That was from here: http://auspost.com.au/about-us/australia-post-celebrates-christmas....

Yes JoKo they are another issue. They are the Christmas 2011 collection and the Santa Clause ones are the Christmas Island Christmas 2011
collection.

I think I ordered those the day they came out
They're really nice, I like the watercolour look of them. I'm using those up at the moment, but generally I either use the $1.60 internationals (still
sending out dingos), the $1.65 internationals (ducks!) or make up $1.80 with whatever (one $1.20 and a 60c or three 60c or.. I got a bunch off ebay so
I can really stamp an entire card at this point) |
