Well it may have been an oversight but even on all the postage calculators its now $1.65 and there the lowest stamp in circulation basically apart
from seasonal. |

According to the new Aust Post "International Post Charges Easy Guide" dd 22/10/2012 international postcards are still $1.60. The charge for
letters up to 50g. has risen to $1.65.
Greeting Cards in sealed envelope up to 20g. $1.60 for Nov. & dec. only. |
Yes, I saw that too, that rate for postcards is still $1.60
So I don't think the postage for postcards has gone up this time. The big change I've noticed is that, for sending letters, there used to be 50g to
150g, for 4 dollars something, but now there is only 50g to 250g, for almost 7 dollars. This is the biggest change that Australian Post has
introduced. |
yes biggest change for letters - i send several calendars at this time of the year and they will now cost $6.20 to 250g or $14.20 !!! 250-500g...
(these rates for rest of the world, not asia pacific)
my local post office still has no notice regarding postal rate changes..
i got a new Post Charges book effective 5 November 2012
the pdf i had downloaded wasn't clear about postcards - i did assume they would be covered by the greeting cards rate
however the post charges booklet does specify:
"Postcards (no prepaid) $1.60
Greeting cards must be enclosed in a sealed small letter envelope and endorsed CARD ONLY $1.65"
and then the seasonal rate info for november december
so it looks lie postcards remain at $1.60 and enveloped cards will be 5c more (after nov/dec)

Hi guys!
Sent my first 5 official cards, plus an extra card, today, and apparently, there's only 2 types of international stamps to choose from: the Phillip
Island penguins (which I loved), and a duck (hardly inspirational, since Australia is not the only country that has ducks).
I asked if I could pick and choose stamps, and the lady behind the counter at my local PO said "It's either this or this. Best I can do is give you 3
of these and 3 of these."
Can one find a greater variety anywhere, or is this what we're stuck with?
Oh yeah... I live in Brisbane... |

Currently the $1.60 international stamp is a Christmas Island one. If sending in an envelope you can use that stamp on its own for xmas discount.
Otherwise you can add a .05 cent platypus international stamp to it and you get your $1.65 and no need of an envelope.
You can use any combination of international stamps as long as they add up to $1.65
Before the recent price rise I was using 3 x $1.50 (smaller rectangle stamp) + 1 x .10cents |

Thank you
Might try the GPO in the city one of these days and see if they have a larger variety.

It is also worth looking the the Australia Post shop online. there tends to be older international stamps still for sale and a few varieties.
They dont take long to arrive after ordering either. |

Recently they have been doing free postage for those orders. I don't know it that is still valid though. |

I received free postage on an order I received last week.
Also the stamps arrived alot quicker then if I had ordered through the stamp news.
No parking hassles either or queuing. |

I think ever since early this year for an Australian address there's been no charge on postage and handling when ordering things online from the
Auspost website.
I guess they'll keep it this way (and certainly hope so), because when they used to have that 5-dollar postage and handling fee, it stopped a lot of
people from buying. Like I might order nothing from them for half a year, and buy everything from my local LPO instead. I think the LPOs get to keep
more than 10% of whatever they sell to the customers. Now that the fee is gone, I order everything online, directly from the Australian Post, like
every two weeks or so. |

Oh thanks for the tip re free post elene_sokolova!
So much variety on the website, and from the comfort of my own home!!
I have a question - what are 'maxicards' eg: http://shop.auspost.com.au/collectables/stamps-issues
also, with these postcards: http://shop.auspost.com.au/collectables/stamps-issues/living-austra...
can you just put extra stamps on to send them internationally? |

With the maxicards and the postcard packs, they're actually postage prepaid already - at the back of the card in the top right corner it says
something like "postage prepaid, for posting in Australia and delivery worldwide", so you won't need to use any stamps on these cards.
I think the maxicards are great, and quite a lot of postcrossers from Russia and China in particular are really into these cards, because they're
considered to be very special. |

I just bought some maxi cards but they are the old/collectible ones. Old meaning issued years back. Can I still post them without using stamps?
Thank you and will appreciate your reply since I'm very new at PC and doesn't know much. |

Look on the back in the top right corner it says something like postage prepaid, for posting in Australia and delivery worldwide
If it says that then no stamp is required. |

As long as it's got that "postage prepaid, for posting in Australia and delivery worldwide", it'll be fine.
I think the pre-1990 maxicards are not prepaid, so any maxicard issued in or after 1990 will be ok to post without stamps. |

Thank you. Yup, these maxicards have the "postage prepaid" at the back. I just thought that because they are old they are no longer valid for sending
this year. Now I know and eager to send these maxicards to other postcrossers.
Thank you for the reply mundoo and elena_sokolova |
