I lived last years close to ancient ruines built by the Mayans, so the request of a small stone from the Yucatan (in private swaps) never sounded weird to me.

What I find weird and scary is to send teabags or seeds by mail. I'm sure sooner or later that would become suspicious behaviour in my country and I would go to answer some questions to the police :freak:

That was exactly what I thought when I got a request to swap tea bags!!! I thought Brazilian customs would stop me from sending the pack - and they actually opened it before letting it go!

I saw a lovely request for sending a soil sample; that would be highly illegal in the US to receive. I imagine in Australia as well (I was given an apple on my flight to Sydney, a small green Granny Smith apple which I decided to save for later). So while waiting at customs at Sydney airport, a sniffing dog targets me, my apple was confiscated, I was asked for my passport by the officer and I was given a ton of paperwork to sign. I have never been back to Australia, I fear I might get detained :D:D).

A few years ago someone in (I think) Germany, sent a leaf through the mail as an Official card. One side had the address and stamp on it and the other side had a message. There was a picture on the Forum. It was a very thick leaf.
When several of us said that Dept. of Agriculture in Canada and the US might object, the answer was what do they do about leaves that blow across the border?

I have one that says "Lake Placid 1980" on it, with an image of the anthromorphized raccoon who was the mascot for the Winter Games. But I'll bet that doesn't surprise you.

It's been in my collection for three years. I guess it proves that even the most unusual requests could be fulfilled, by simply drawing the right name in Postcrossing!

Just pulled a profile for a 2.5 year old Pug which is strange enough. "...will be glad to get postcard with bacon taste".

I've got some "Bacon" Super Awesome postcards, though I don't think they taste like bacon. I suppose I could rub bacon on a postcard though. Would cooked bacon or raw bacon work better? Maybe we should ask the dog.

Maybe I should send it in an envelope and include some bonus bacon pieces. Think it will get through customs?

Recently I read this request in a profile:
"Can anyone from which ever country you are in send the exact same card that I have received earlier?I like to get the same card from different people."

I thought it was a lovely idea.

You should cook the bacon, drizzle some of the grease on the card and then eat the bacon. Win-win ;)

I got a profile asking for beermats (and handmade postcards etc.) so I sent a beermat:D It only went to Sweden, so I took the chance. It arrived in a few days!

This thread is hilarious! I'm going to watch for unusual requests now.

But I do understand the concern about sending tea or sand or leaves overseas though. Sometimes there are insects or other microscopic invertebrates accidentally included. And although, for example, an insect traveling from the northern US to southern Canada might be OK because it's still within it's normal home range; an insect traveling from Germany to Canada or the US might be a disaster to the local farming industry!

I think I sent to that person. He also had favourited a card of Prince William and I apologised for not having one of him suitably clad. Don't imagine he's ever had to clean his loo...

language skills? maybe the user wanted to say 'stamps with the card'. Or maybe s/he is fine with used stamps on the card and new ones on the envelope ...

did you mention your 'confusion' on your card/envelope?

I sent in an envelope with (hopefully) interesting stamps on the envelope and some used stamps affixed to the postcard inside (which is what I normally do so the postcard still looks "right" even though it is in an envelope). I figure that has it covered. And no, I didn't say anything about the profile. I go back and forth about asking about and/or correcting people's English but up to now have decided not to.

I didn't ask for this, but once I received (as an official card) an envelope sent from Netherlands with a small plastic bag containing exactly 5 g of spices mixture + a card and a recipe of Holland gingerbread. The amount of spices was matching to the one listed in the recipe. Of course I did bake the cookies, and they were awesome :D But I still wonder how this envelope managed to get to me intact.
