 Ahoy-hoy, everyone! For those in the DMV area (or those that want a great excuse to visit Washington, DC), its time to put the 3rd Annual Washington, DC Postcrossing Meet-Up on your calendar!

The event will be held on Saturday, September the 8th, 2018. Although the itinerary is not yet set, we will most likely be exploring a bit more of DC as a group than we have in the previous two years. :bouncing: Tentative Meet-Up Schedule:

Part I of the Meet-Up

9:30am-11:00am Guided Tour of the Washington Capitol Building (as I need to make advanced reservations for this tour, I will need confirmations from anyone that would like to attend this portion of the event)

11:00am-12:00pm Lunch at the Capitol Caf (Menu: https://www.visitthecapitol.gov/plan-visit/capitol-cafe)

12:00pm-12:30pm Postcard Hunting at the Capitol Gift Shops

12:30pm-1:30pm Metro/Walk to Union Station

Part II of the Meet-Up

1:45pm - Meet at Union Station (Main Hall in front of Center Cafe: http://www.unionstationdc.com/pdfs/directoryMap.pdf)

1:45pm-2:45pm - Postcard shopping!

2:45pm-3:00pm Walk to the Postal Museum

3:00pm-4:45pm - Postcard signing at the Overlook in the Postal Museum

4:45pm-5:00pm - Mail the postcards - Farewells!

Hi Ana - the meet-up is still four months away, but I'm sure one of us will be able to send you a meet-up postcard.

Hi there! You just post here if you're interested in attending and I will add you to the list. As we get closer to the meet-up, I'll send updates to all the attendees.

If you'd like to attend, please let me know if you'd like to attend the Capitol Tour portion. I need to start working on a head count to see if I need to arrange two group tours. :)

Just as an FYI - I was able to book a Capitol Tour for 15 through the office of one of the VA Senators. The maximum tour number is 15, but I'm able to book a second tour group that would be scheduled around the same time as the first should we have over 15 confirmed sign-ups.

If you are interested in attending the Capitol Tour portion of the Postcrossing Meet-Up, please let me know so I can mark you as confirmed. :)

From the confirmation email:

PROHIBITED ITEMS

Before entering the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, all visitors are screened by a magnetometer, and all items that are permitted inside the building are screened by an x-ray device. Visitors should keep their belongings with them at all times as unattended items may result in a disruption of service at the Capitol.

While certain exceptions for medical needs can be made, the following items are strictly prohibited:

Liquid, including water
Food or beverage of any kind, including fruit and unopened packaged food
Non-aerosol sprays (Prescriptions for medical needs are permitted.)
Any bag larger than 18 wide x 14 high x 8.5 deep
Knives of any size
Aerosol containers
Any pointed object, e.g., knitting needles and letter openers. (Pens and pencils are permitted.)
Electric stun guns, martial arts weapons or devices
Guns, replica guns, ammunition and fireworks
Mace and pepper spray
Razors and box cutters

Visitors: The Capitol Visitor Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day, Presidential Inauguration Days, and Sundays.

Official Business: Visitors with official business appointments may enter the Capitol Visitor Center as early as 7:15 a.m.

TIPS FOR VISITING THE U.S. CAPITOL

As parking is limited on Capitol Hill, visitors are encouraged to use public transportation to reach the U.S. Capitol. Train (Metrorail) stations and bus stops are nearby the Union Station and Capitol South Metrorail stops are the most convenient to the Capitol.

Visitors enter the U.S. Capitol through the Capitol Visitor Center. The entrance is located beneath the east plaza of the Capitol.

You must pick up your tour pass prior to the tour time printed on your confirmation letter. From March through August, please arrive at least 30 minutes early to complete the required security and screening process.

To visit the Galleries of the Senate or House of Representatives, obtain separate passes from the offices of your Senators or Representative. International visitors may inquire about passes at the Senate or House of Representatives Appointment Desks located inside the Capitol Visitor Center.

The tour of the historic Capitol includes a 45-minute guided walking tour as well as a 13-minute orientation film. Escalators and elevators are located near the public stairways, and wheelchairs are available upon request at the Visitor Center.

Please take advantage of Exhibition Hall, the Restaurant, the Gift Shops and the other amenities at the Capitol Visitor Center before or after your tour.

For general information about touring the U.S. Capitol, go to http://www.visitthecapitol.gov. please note that the U.S Capitol is subject to temporary suspension of tours. Thank you for visiting the U.S. Capitol.

The event is still over two months away, but I'm sure someone will be willing to swap once we get closer to the actual meet-up. :)

Will attained

I was unable to find this on the MeetUp website (https://www.meetup.com). I am a definite attendee. My wife Margo is a tentative, but we'll provide a definitive response before you require it (working our employment conflicts). Thanks for putting this together, and please let me know if there is something i can do to assist.

Lived in DC for over 5 years and I've still never been inside the Capitol, if you can believe it. Looking forward to it.

Also, thanks for the very kind offer of help! :)

Hi! I'm Raymond - I'm in NOVA. I'd like to go in September, this looks fun!
Glad I found this forum, I only started postcrossing a couple months ago, so it's cool something like this is up and running. Cheers
