I would really like to be able to follow members I find interesting on the official site and have followers, maybe it would be interested to look into that.

How do you mean this?
To get a notification when one uploads a card or updates her/his profile?
Or a link to their profiles on your profile (visible for you only, or for everyone?) so you can easily check what they are sending and receiving? Would one be able to control who follows her/him? I am not sure what I think about this. For sure I don't want this environment to turn into another "please follow me"-platforms.

You can use the “address book” function in the U2U to save the Postcrossers you want to remember.

I would not be interested in having a “follow” function like social media; I don’t care to collect followers. Also, for me the joy of Postcrossing is in the random interaction.

Yes, sure I can use something else but I am not interested in that, I am interested in following postcrossers I find interesting, I know what postcrossing is about, I have been a member for almost 6 years, but that does not mean we can not do something new.

:thumbup: I support the idea of following. Or some sort of friends feature, or at least an on-site bookmark option.

@Tuutia :thumbup:

We already have Facebook and YouTube for that and it turns into a popularity contest. 'How many followers do you have?' is a common question. Even the media quote information on sites with the prefix of how many followers a specific person or event has.

I'm curious....Why would there be a need to a 'followers' on Postcrossing? ...In other words, what is the purpose of it? Perhaps I'm missing something and sure would love to be in the know.:)

@Sfander, I can think right away of one reason people would want to follow someone, which is if they have themes they collect and use their Favorites Wall as a wishlist. If they, for example, love Gorjuss cards and notice someone has sent a number of Gorjuss cards, they might want to follow that person on the assumption they will send more and then the follower can add them to their favorites wall. Another reason is maybe they are just curious as to what another Postcrosser they met at a meetup or read a profile from or lives in their same town or whatever is sending or receiving. Since you can already get at this information using the Search function, if there was an easy way to save quick links to a profile through a button, why not?

Also, I think some people are already sort-of "following" others, because I have noticed that cards get favorited over time by the same people, so these people must be visiting that user's profile/wall on an ongoing basis.

All that said, I would absolutely *not* support having visible or public "followers" because I agree 100% it would become a popularity contest for a significant number of people.
