Even without a contest or a mega-milestone*, there is another million to be sent, guessed and countdowned.

523,325
With an average of 20000 cards per weekday + 5000 (maybe) on Sunday, yes it's still "on the target" I think ! :P

Half-way there

495,979 to go
4th of March, 2019, 20:19 UTC
a card from AT to US

;) Introduction to mathematics:
Leaving hours aside, it took us 34 days to reach the present number of (50),504,021 registered cards. That leads to an average of 14,824 cards registered per day. So with 496,000 cards left, it will take another 33,xy days. :P

Of course, there are incertain variables, like a sudden big delay somewhere (like we had with Russia in 2017) or sudden in- resp. decrease of users. Also, the delay caused by Christian holidays will fade eventually, while Chinese New Year may produce a (smaller) new one ...

Conclusion: we'll never know for sure ... that's part of the charme of the countdown.

@thubcabe: even if we look at the single days which start weak on Monday and grow stronger till Friday to go weak and very weak again over the weekend, I know that we don't have a 20,000-average on weekdays. You might wanna review your data ;)

Well, the northern U.S. shut down its deliveries today due to the Polar Vortex :/ That might put a wrench in things...but at least the mail carriers won't get frostbite.
