150yearsofpostcards - 4th Annual Washington, DC Postcrossing Meet-Up – September 28th, 2019
CITY/REGION: Washington, DC
DATE: September the 28th, 2019
TIME: 8:30am - 5:30pm
MEETUP PLACE: Newseum (@ 8:30am) - US Postal Museum (@2:45pm)
Ahoy-hoy, everyone! For those in the DMV area (or those that
want a great excuse to visit Washington, DC), it’s time to put the 4th Annual Washington, DC Postcrossing Meet-Up on your calendar!
The event will be held on Saturday, September the 28th, 2019. Although the itinerary is not yet set, I would like to continue the trend from last year
of exploring more of Washington, DC as a group. Since the Newseum is closing at the end of 2019, I thought it would be a lot of fun to visit this unique museum with my fellow Postcrossers. If you’d like
to skip the Newseum visit, you are more than welcome to join us for Part II of the Meet-Up.
Meet-Up Schedule:
Part I of the Meet-Up
8:30am-12:00pm – Tour the Newseum as a group - tickets can be purchased in advance online (you will receive a 15% discount on the regular $24.95 rate) or in person. There are also discounts
available for children, youth, seniors, AAA members, and more.
12:00pm-1:00pm – Lunch at The Food Section cafe in the Newseum (Menu: https://www.newseum.org/visit/dining/food-section-sample-menu/)
1:00pm-2:00pm – Postcard Hunting at the Newseum/surrounding shops
2:00pm-2:30pm – Metro/Walk to Union Station
Part II of the Meet-Up
2:45pm - Meet at Union Station (Main Hall in front of Center Cafe: http://www.unionstationdc.com/pdfs/directoryMap.pdf)
2:45pm-3:00pm Walk to the Postal Museum
3:00pm-4:45pm - Postcard signing at the Overlook in the Postal Museum
4:45pm-5:30pm - Mail the postcards - Farewells!
Last year's meet-up page can be found at: https://forum.postcrossing.com/viewthread.php?tid=119452

I’m in and I’m also confirming for my sister who finally officially joined Postcrossing about a week ago (Nurse_TT). Right now I’ll say only for Part
II.
Thanks for hosting again! |

I would love to do this! The Newseum is closing?! Why?!!!!
I'm definitely interested, but need to get a handle on my fall schedule once school starts in August. |

They can't afford that space. There are so many amazing and free museums in D.C. that it's hard for museums that charge (and the Newseum is not cheap)
to make a go of it. The Spy Museum is still doing OK I guess, but the Crime Museum closed a few years ago. They may relocate, but I don't know where
and if it would be the same size collection. Johns Hopkins University has bought the building. |

Thanks for clarifying. What a bummer. Despite the price, we've brought 8th graders there for years, and it's so been worth it. |

Absolutely! I’ll be sure to update the attendee list soon - it’s been a chaotic week between work and school. |

It will be awesome to finally
meet you, too!
Also, I have a friend that has a postmark sleeve (similar to this) - she adds a new stamp for every new state/country she visits. I always thought it would be so cool to have a postcard-related tattoo! |

I've posted this before, but for anyone new to meet-ups:
A part of the meet-up will consist of an "autograph session" - this is where we all sign postcards that we can send to friends, family, and other
Postcrossers. Lots and lots of cards are signed so if you don't want to have a super tired hand by the end of the signing session, you may want to buy
a stamp (be mindful that most ink is not as "fast drying" as the label may imply) or stickers with your Postcrossing username.
I usually buy stickers through the Namestickers Taiwan Facebook Group, but it usually takes a few months for orders to arrive since they are printed in Taiwan and then mailed to the
Netherlands for final processing/shipping. If you order by the July 1st deadline, you should receive your namestickers before the meet-up (hopefully
).
The Etsy shop HanPrinting also sells more basic namestickers, but processing is super quick. |

I'm so sorry that we will (possibly) miss you at this one! I hope your upcoming move goes smoothly - we will definitely miss you in this area! Once
you're settled, please feel free to send me your address. I'd love to send you a card from the meet-up (if you can't attend in person ). |

I'm glad this is the 28th. This means I can also do the Area 51 meetup the week before. |
