150 years of postcards - let's celebrate it together!
Hi everyone!
As some of you might know, postcards will celebrate their 150th anniversary later this year, on October 1st. They've been around since 1869, when
Austrian professor Emanuel Herrmann suggested they should be introduced for shorter, less formal messages.... fast forward 150 years and they're
still around, bringing smiles across the world to everyone's mailboxes!
We think 150 years is a pretty big deal, and so we're planning to throw postcards a global party, with a special website, exhibitions, a postcard contest, lots of events and meetings happening all around the world... which is where you all come in!
Your mission, if you wish to accept it, is to plan a meetup with other local postcrossers to celebrate the 150th anniversary. Meet
some new friends, make some postal-themed activities, or just send postcards together. The important thing is to have fun and celebrate postcards -
this is a birthday party, after all

Here are some general guidelines to help you get started:
NAME: These special meetings should be named "#150yearsofpostcards - cityname meetup"
(eg. #150yearsofpostcards - Berlin meetup)
WHAT: Get together, throw a party, eat some cake and send some postcards!
WHEN: Tuesday, October 1st, 2019.
(If this is not possible at all, then the weekend after that (October 5-6) falls between this milestone and the World Post Day, and could also be an
option)
HOW: Talk to other postcrossers around you and coordinate efforts, make a plan to bring people together. Then, open a thread on the forum about the meeting, to let everyone know. We'll add it to the Meetups calendar page on Postcrossing and also post it on
the 150yearsofpostcards.com website. (New to meetups? Start here.)
CONNECT: (optional) In the spirit of connecting the world, it would be great if these meetups are linked together as much as
possible, for instance through livestreams (which we can help promote on the website) and/or connected to other meetups happening simultaneously in
other countries. Reach out to other meetup hosts and find a way to connect your meetings through video chat (and of course, postcards!), so that
everyone can say hi and feel part of the global #150yearsofpostcards party.
IMAGE: Some people asked if they could use the "postmark and wave logo" we made for this anniversary on their postcards. As long as
it is a non-comercial use, sure! We've licensed it under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial license. Here's a vectorial file, and a png file.

Ok, I think I've covered everything, but feel free to ask questions in the comments below. There's plenty of time to make plans, and we'll announce
everything on the Postcrossing blog and launch other activities in the coming months... but for now, we just wanted to give everyone on the forum a
head start on planning and getting excited.
Join the #150yearsofpostcards party!

I do not know if this is the right place to share it, but in Berlin there will be a special postmark about the jubilee on 21st August (in connection
with the exhibition at the Museum for Communication).

And in Hungary a souvenir sheet was issued on 9th May.

May I ask if we should do video chat with people from other countries in meetings ourselves? Or should we say we want to participate and you connect
everyone in one video chat? |

Question to the Administrator:
A meetingcard will be designed for the #150yearsofpostcards meetup in The Netherlands. The designer wants to use the both logo's (the special one and
the original postcrossing logo). Is this the right text for the attribution at the back side:
Copyright logo’s by Postcrossing - Postcrossing is a registered trademark
Please your approval, before the cards are going to be printed.
Thanks! |

@Kewl Sure! The important thing is that people get together and celebrate this special day!
@WilmaT For the 150 years logo, it's enough if there's a simple link to the website (150yearsofpostcards.com). For the Postcrossing logo, the trademark notice is required. So, it could be something like this:
www.150yearsofpostcards.com
The Postcrossing logo is a registered trademark

Hi Wilma! Thank you for checking in with us on this. So, by parts:
- The attribution is fine!
- The Postcrossing logo, however, is quite small. The minimum print size should be 8mm height, and even though we don’t mind having a small margin of
error, this size seems too small. Please increase it a little bit. If you’re doubt about sizes and spacing, please check the PDF included in the logo kit.
- Please don’t use the red P on your postcard. The logo guidelines don’t cover this image.
If you have further questions, feel free to send me U2U — I’m happy to help. |

Good advice, I will follow it up, of course.

Ana, I wanna thank you and Paulo for making us aware about 150 years of postcards. It not only gave so many of us chances to do meetups and have fun
but also learn a lot. When I was organizing our meetups, I was searching various local postcard clubs with whom I could collab or something but I just
didn't find a single club that even knew about 150 years of postcards. A little embarrassing I'd say so I really appreciate everything you guys did
for this remarkable occasion. |

You guys should really take pride in this. I have never seen so many meetups take place ever! It was on the level of people celebrating a celebrity's
birthday! |
