World Postcard Day cancellation mark
A few postcrossers asked us how they can get the World Postcard Day cancellation mark we've posted about on the blog.

Getting the cancellation mark from inside Portugal is easy: you can either go to the Restauradores Post Office, or mail them your pre-stamped,
pre-addressed postcards to be cancelled on the day.
Getting the cancellation mark from outside of Portugal is a little tricky, because the postcards need to have Portuguese stamps on them, in order for
the cancellation to be used. We've talked to the post office, and suggested the use of IRCs (International Reply Coupons).
If you don't have Portuguese stamps but can find some IRCs in your country, you can send your pre-addressed postcards inside an envelope to this
address:
Filatelia
R. João Saraiva, 9 - Piso 1
1700-248 Lisboa
PORTUGAL
Don't put any stamps on the postcards, but include one IRC for each postcard you'd like to be mailed. The philately service will swap the IRCs for
right stamps, add the cancellation mark to your postcards, and mail them for you.
I think that's it, but if you have questions let me know below!
Note that the cancellation mark will only be available until October 31st, so your postcards need to arrive in Portugal before that.

IRC's in German are IAS's (=internationaler Antwortschein). They can be ordered via Deutsche Post -> https://shop.deutschepost.de/portogutscheininternationaler-antwortsc...
I've ordered some to give it a try

Could somebody please share their experiences?
For me it didn't work very well, because today I received an invoice of 6,88 Euro.
I sent over 8 postcards and included 8 IRCs from Deutsche Post (2 Euro each) and now they charge me again 0,86 € per card.
Do they charge you extra for each postcard for the stamp exchange and cancellation? Is 0,86 Euro the general price for an IRC in Portugal?
I would like to find out how the amount comes about. And I wonder if my cards have been sent yet or are they waiting for the cash receipt? They didn't
even include IBAN/BIC for the money transfer (or paypal or whatever).
None of my cards have arrived yet ...
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. |

Hi Miss-Cynical,
I'm sorry to hear that — that definitely does not sound right...
Could you send us a message via Postcrossing.com's contact form, so that we can understand the issue and get in touch with the Portuguese Post to
figure this out?

I had sent 2 postcards and 2 IRCs - on 22.09.2020.
Was eagerly waiting to receive the postcards. Therefore I was very excited today (13.10.2020), when I received an envelope from CTT Lisbon.
However, it DID NOT contain my postcards!
Instead, it had an invoice of 0.86€ x 2 = 1.72€ and the 2019 Portuguese Philatelic Catalogue.
As per Ana's response to your post, I have already sent a message via the Postcrossing.com's contact page.

Thanks to Ana: this "invoice" is only for informational purposes, more like a delivery note than an invoice. So you don't have to pay anything. The
cards have already been sent (if you sent them complete with addresses) and our cards should reach their recipients soon!
Thanks again, Ana, for your help! |

Oh, good to know: I've sent an envelope with IRC's and postcard to Portugal, too, but haven't received anything back yet. At least, I'm prepared now
for what's to come |
