I've got a 39 days to USA which is unusual. Her profile says "seen about a month ago". I check it now and then to see if she's logged in....

I just checked again. On her "Sent" stats, there are two registered two days ago. How does that work. Thinks......... Oh I got it. They were in the mail and finally arrived, the recipients logged them as received at their end = sent at her end. OK.

She's still absent for "about a month" then. (39 days = about a month, it seems. :) )

And for all those who want to send more - this also has come up before - there are whole sections of the forum dedicated to swaps, tags, penpals, all sorts of things. Through that, you can send to your heart's content. Yes it can be complicated and I don't think it is as much fun as random official Postcrossing, but the options are there.

I've been moseying backwards in the thread and came across this. I'm a newer user, and right now my 6 travelling cards are taking a long time (in my terms, probably not Postcrossing's) to be received and registered. (Mystifyingly, the longest to arrive at the moment is one to the USA that is travelling a comparatively short distance! But it is the Christmas season, after all ;)

I don't actually want to receive cards so much (although I did get a lovely card from Lithuania only today); I mainly enjoy sending them - it's fun to look at someone's profile and try to choose a card that aligns with their interests and will (hopefully) brighten their day when they receive it.

So elikoa, thank you for that note. I think I'll start looking at those swaps and round-robins. It's not that I am giving up on "regular" Postcrossing -- far from it! I just want to continue participating in the fun of sending postcards, while I'm waiting for my recipients to get the ones that are still in transit.

You might want to look at the competition threads where you set a few rules for a "competition" then send a postcard to the "winner", e.g. I have some book cards that I'd like to send to people who will especially appreciate them so I could set a competition asking for each entry to list their favourite book, or recommend me a good book, or post a short review of a book (good or bad) that they read recently, etc. Or you can randomise the "winner".

There are a lot of people who are very active in tags etc. and have stopped sending a lot of "officials" - it's not a problem, to each their own ;) of course you will find what you like best.
I love sending too and in the early days sometimes I was looking at the "non-random acts of smileness" section of the forum and sent a few but for some reason I wasn't enjoying it that much (also I was very conscious of postage costs so I was feeling guilty for sending more. Maybe I can start again now as postage is really cheap where I am!).

I didn't really know about competition threads though :o

The competition threads are in this sub forum:

https://forum.postcrossing.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=110

They're fun games if you enjoy games as much as postcards.

I also send random kindness cards, although not through the postcrossing forums yet.

I have one stuck travelling to a user whose address I got when she logged in 3 months ago and registered 2 cards. Prior to that, she went over 3 years without registering. And at *that* login she registered 6 cards after over a year of inactivity. Previous to that she was slightly more regular but still had ongoing gaps of several months and then batch registering of expired cards.

I sent her a message in her native language but got no response. I really don't think people with this pattern should be allowed to continue. It's not fair to those of us sending cards in good faith.

65 over the last year!

Only a couple of days to go before I hit my first expired card, thus besmirching my clean record. :( Shame, it was such a nice card, too.

In context that's 65 expired out of about 2000 sent, or approximately 1 in 30.

Since there's not much you can do about expired cards going to ghostcrossers, you may as well get used to it. If the user is still active, you could try sending a second card if you want.

One due to expire in a few days from Taiwan. She joined in Sept., have three registered as sent and then never registered receiving any. Hasn't been online in over a month (is that a standard postcrossing phrase?) I emailed her but no response. Oh well. :(

It's a nickname for postcrossers who "ghost" the project, i.e. stop participating right when you get their address and they never register your card and are never seen again.

Three days to go for my first ever expired card. How exciting! Does it expire immediately when the clock hits Sunday at midnight my time? i.e., on Monday morning? i.e., when I wake up, it's expired?

Can't wait! Well, I'll have to. :spin:

I have sent a message, but the expired card has been travelling for almost a year... Over 200 days at the moment. The user is active though, but didn't reply to my message.

After having received one card without an ID, I was wondering whether my card might also be lacking an ID (having been torn or gotten wet on the way) or something.

BTW the card I received without an ID was registrable after I asked for help from the Postcrossing staff, and they were able to locate the sender and card ID.

I'm in Canada, and I've had one card travelling due south to the U.S.A. for 42 days now. That's highly unusual. It had to go only 770 miles as the crow flies! And OK, as Flann O'Brien once said, "I am not a crow," but still it's practically the house next door, compared to the vast distances many of my other cards have travelled in far less time.

...I think it may be lost :(

On the plus side, one of my other cards arrived in Taiwan, so I have an empty slot again. Yippee!

What happens when a sent card actually expires? Talk about brinkmanship, one due to expire was registered after 59 days, so I never got to find out. Do you get an email telling you? Does something appear on your "sent cards" list? Such as card ID GB-xxxxxxx expired? If yes, is this visible to anyone else?

I am agog with questions, because I haven't had an expired card. Yet. :)

Well when an expired card get's registered within one year from drawing the adress you get an usual Hurray E-Mail just like the one you get before the card expires. Just you won't get a new free slot as you got that one when the card did expire.
After one year the card will be vanished from your expired list and cannot be registered at all anymore.
