1st ever Hong Kong meeting! Mongkok, Sunday 22 August 2010 - A great, momentous occasion! Some photos in 1st post. More soon...

Welcome to the Hong Kong meet-up thread!

A great success! History in the making! A group of postcard nuts met today for the first time and it was a great experience! Here is a group photo:

From left to right: christinewoowoo, tmcmandy, ameko, tatmichael, mercedes, hotchocky, wennycheung (in green), scrutiny :)

The welcome sign made by mercedes and signed by every attendee!

It was really fun. Our number ended up being 8 of us. We met in the MTR (train) station, and then we headed over to the 2nd floor cafe. It was nice and we sat around a table and were kind of quiet, until we all whipped out our cards and we all got really excited lol!! It was really a demonstration about how postcards can break the ice. The postcards were out before we even ordered our drinks! We sat for about 3 hours and talked ourselves tired and then we all went our separate ways.

We are looking to meet up again in a bigger group around Christmastime, and get more people to come. It was so much fun and I think none of us can wait for the next meeting! :)

More photos to be posted soon!

Thank you everyone for joining! Extra special thank you to mercedes for finding and booking the venue! :bouncy:

Yes! We all did have a great time both in HK and Macau! :D
First day in HK was The Peak, Symphony of Lights and Avenue of Stars.
Our first experience of using the MTR was challenging! :) Everyone we asked direction to didn't know how to speak English. But we successfully reached our first destination safely.
Second day was Disneyland only --- we all had a blast!
We all seemed like kids! Even my 75yo mom!:D
We missed the Ngong Ping though...
I plan to bring my son to Disneyland one day...

And I'd like to share our pics here:

Great pics, Jan! Just seeing the Portuguese tarts made my mouth water!

@ kikistarz, you know, I don't think we'll get anything organised before August... it's already July and you know how busy Hong Kong people are. So it's very likely we'll meet after you get back! You are missing the bad heat, so that's great, lucky you! :)

@mercedes, I think you are better at choosing a venue from that website because I can't read much Chinese :P But they all look good... I guess we should decide a district convenient for everyone... my guess is Mongkok, because it's not so far from most people... or Causeway Bay. But we need more input from other members!

We need to let more Hong Kong Postcrossers know we are planning a meetup...[It's really a big problem]
Then we can deside the place

Yes, agreed! It's on my to do list. Except my message will be in English only, so I hope that isn't a problem! Unless you feel like doing it, mercedes? :)

Yeah - I was thinking we could send to those active on the forum, and maybe the top ten or twenty users? Then I guess maybe half of them will consider it. 10 people sounds great to me, because of the venue, which will probably be small...

Then try 10 people first, we can have a larger one next time:spin:

That are actual lymany upstair cafes allows 20 or more people have a little party there, but we can't expect the food and drinks is too good....I am finding a place that with a nice enviroment to chat and with nice food~[but not too expensive;)]

Welcome, arjojoey!

wennycheung requests Saturdays, Grade3 suggests CWB or TST, somewhere near a train station and with an English name... :)
