I just drew GB-909002. Almost round, but not quite.

A couple of days ago I received - at the same time - DE-6320362 and DE-6320392. I was amused that they differed only by one digit, and I now also just realised that there is something quite cool about 6320362 :D

But I "only" got DE-6444444 and DE-6444445.

Sending MY-397000...it sounds so satisfying to draw a rounded number.

With every number being unique per se, I've sent 262 unique ones in 2017 to 262 unique users. (and received 254 singular cards from exceptional 254 users)

With some numbers being unique-r ;) than others, I want to tell two unique-r stories here.

Yes, I am a hunter  who tries to catch IDs like palindromes, echoes or rows.

So in late spring of 2017, I started to save open slots for an AT-ID I knew was due in June . Which was harder than expected, b/c all I could do is sit and wait and watch the days go by without sending resp. receiving (official) cards .
Of course, I did draw one ID a week to see if my calculations were in sync with the real events :eureka:.
Start of June I slowly started to get nervous :o. Will all my efforts and woes bear fruit? At that time, I had 14 free slots, so at least I had some room. Then, it was a holiday weekend here, smartphone-less-me slept at my partner's, so I had to borrow his tablet. It was supposed to be a routine check as I had expected the desired number to be about a day later, but ... boom ... my goal was only six digits away :spin:. Totally within reach of my free-slot-range :bouncing:. So of course I started to order. x-5, x-4, x-3 ... you get the pattern.
I was down to x-2, knowing/expecting that there were still two to go. But ... boom again ... one number was skipped and the screen showed what I had craved for for the last two month.
Relief, happiness, pure joy. Hurray, indeed. :P:D:):D:P:lol::lol::lol:

When I was able to think again, I realized: a few bits/sec more or less regarding the wi-fi, and I would have received x-1, while a fellow Austrian postcrosser (a friend at that, as the 'what's happening now' did show me later) would have gotten x :o. The odds that day were in my favour, that's for sure :bouncing:.

To add some extra drama to that already almost-too-exciting-to-bear story: the lucky recipient did not log in for a long time after I sent mine, the card went expired, my polite 'did-you-get'-message did remain unanswered, my heart broke a little :(. I had to wait till start of September till I got redeeming message: Hurray, your postcard* arrived! :P

------------------------------------

Summer (June) did start with action and success, it would end (August) the same:

I tried to catch another special AT-ID which I knew would be due end of August. Same procedure as every time, saving up free slots (~20), doing some calculations of AT-cards per week/day/hour.
I got lucky already with an echo on Sunday. The next day evening, I learned from the routine check-drawing that with five cards/hour the desired number would be reached around noon the day after. A challenge somehow, b/c I had to leave for work at that time.

Okay, I told myself next morning, let's use one precious spot and check at 10.30, just to know how things are proceeding. So I had breakfast, checked my beloved postcrossing forum ;), made some phonecalls (wow, something postcrossing-unrelated!) ... the usual lazy-me routine.

10:28, a little nervous, but without much hope or motivation, I drew an adress. And boom ... there the targeted number** was! Totally unexpected, almost unbelievable, two hours early according to my calculations.

What an awesome surprise, what a wonderful world! :P:D:):spin:

-------------------------

Thank you for reading. May your 2018 will bring wonderful moments and plenty of unique-r cards.
