***** Second International London Meeting - 7th May 2011 - WOW, What a great time :) - looking forward to May 2012.

COUNTRY: England
CITY/REGION: London
DATE: 7th May 2011
TIME: 10.00-11.00 (see below)

MEETING POINT: Outside Notting Hill Underground Station by Book Warehouse which is easy to spot - it has a bright yellow front (and postcards !).
PLAN OF ACTION:
Friday 6th May
We will be outside Waterstones (op Trafalgar Sq) at 16.00 for a vist to a great shop with PHQ cards and the Post Office that always has the nice stamps, and maybe a few tourist shops before going to the pub.
18.00 onwards some of us will be in the Lord Moon of the Mall pub on Whitehall (16-18 Whitehall, SW1A 2DY) for any who want to have a chat over a meal and a drink (or two).
Saturday 7th May
10.30 First group will leave Notting Hill and go on a postcard hunt ! Steve has found lots of shops with cards covering pretty well the whole spectrum of interests. We will also be visiting the shop at the Robert Opie Museum for those vintage advert/poster type cards. We plan also to visit the cardshops at Victoria including the 20 for £1 shop where the manager has promised me that there may be one or two other specials as well. We shall obviously pause for coffee/tea and eats at any time people want us too :).
11.00 Second group will leave the Station to eventually catch the first party.
16.00-19.00 Meal and card signing at Giraffes at Victoria (which again was such a success last year).

There will be at least one bus journey during the day. I only mention this so that people are prepared, obviously a travel card/oyster card covers this.

We do have to give Giraffe's a number, so please make sure you are confirmed on the main list.

Any queries please don't hesitate to contact Duplevista by U2U, or on the thread.

We would love to see you, maybe you can sit on a postbox too

I'd really love to come along, but not too sure if I'd be able to make the Friday evening as well ... is that compulsory, or would it be OK just to meet you guys for the activities on the Saturday?

Just the Saturday is cool Lotti. It would be great to see you. The Friday is in the main to meet the Euro visitors who stay on the Friday and Sat nights. Although obviously anyone else is welcome.

Hello :) I am new to this, but can see myself getting very addicted xD
I was just wondering, is anybody welcome to this, or do I need to have come last year?
I would probably only be able to come on the saturday because of college and travel times etc, plus can't afford hotels and stuff ;L
But what type of stuff do you do on the saturday? Sounds great fun :)
Do you get people of all ages and countries there? Thank you :)

Hi Becky :)
Anybody is welcome. We have people of all ages and from Europe as well.
The provisional plan is to go postcard shopping, with a break to grab a bite to eat for those who want to. Around 4-30 - 5pm (ish) we visit a restaurant for a meal and we sign all the postcards that anyone wants to send.
It was great fun last year and many new friends were made by everyone. We even had 2 postcards made to remember the event !
Take a look at the thread for last year and you will find various photos.

Hi Protea
We didn't intend to organise accommodation because of the vast number of options available at very different budgets. Also the length of stay varies between many of the visitors depending on other plans whilst in the City.

Accommodation in London can be expensive but there are cheaper options in the less attractive areas. If you are having difficulty finding accommodation at the right price then come back to me with an idea of budget and I'll try to give you a few pointers. Advance booking at Premier Inns and Travelodges is often available at more budget prices but these dates may not have been released yet.

Regards

thanks for your answer

than I will wait until you decided where about in London it will be. If I remember it right it took me 1 1/2 hours by metro to get from London East to Heathrow as I lived there.
With organizing accomodation I ment just provide a list with a few B&B's, Inn's Hotels around that meeting point. But that's no problem to find out myself once you've decided.:)

As I am new to England... Is this a BANK holiday weekend??? It isn't Easter is it??? As long as it isn't a "holiday" weekend then I am IN for Friday night, Saturday and Sat night. Plus any site seeing people would be interested in on Sunday. I have still not been to London so this is the perfect excuse for my first visit.

Thanks Andy and Steve - just answer my wack American question when you get a chance!

Hi Protea
The day will range from the Central West End area through to probably Notting Hill in the West. I would suggest that hotels in the W2 / NW1 areas would be a good place to start. WC2 and W1 might be more expensive. Even places like Elephant & Castle in the south will give fairly quick access to / from the Central area. As I said the key will probably be to reserve when the offers become available (can't be certain when this is).

Hi sassyreader

The weekend chosen is indeed a Bank Holiday - this being the May Day which we get the following Monday. We would love to see you but understand if this is impossible.

By the way, the Friday evening will be an interesting get-together with our international guests who arrive on the early and whilst there will be no signing sessions at this pre-meeting, it was a really good laugh earlier this year.

There is no requirement to attend all sessions, everyone can feel free to visit when they wish provided we have some idea of numbers at each stage.

Best wishes
Steve - delicards

Andy,

I would love to join this time. I will put that down in my diary now.
Perhaps I can make a long weekend of that because it is Irish bank holiday weekend too.
