The Christmas stamps are "economy" domestic postage and are worth 6.50 SEK. Unfortunately we don't have international "economy" rates, so a postcard
or letter (up to 50 grams) costs 14 SEK to anywhere outside of Sweden. You'll need two Christmas stamps and supplemental postage of 1 SEK, I'm afraid.
It doesn't leave a lot of room for writing...
Good shops for postcards are bookstores (particularly in the children's section) and museum shops. Regular grocery stores sometimes have some cards
tucked away by the envelopes and thumbtacks. Åhléns have Lali-cards and square cards. Lagerhaus has Novelles Images and other black/white cards. Here
in Malmö we have Korthuset on Södra Förstadsgatan. |

Hi!
I'm might go to Malmö in a few weeks time and I'd like to send some postcards from there. Is the postage fee still 14 SEK? And where can I buy stamps?
Thank you for your help |

Welcome to Sweden and Malmö
Yes the postage is still SEK 14, and you can always buy stamps at the postoffice, they are often in grocery stores, but tobacco shops, book shops,
Pressbyrån (kiosk) also use to have stamps |

Hi! I'm not sure whether or not you're still in Malmö obviously. If for some reason you can't find foreign postage in Sweden, you can buy two domestic
stamps and that will do, but make sure to write 'PRIORITAIRE' clearly somewhere close to the stamps. |

I haven't been in Malmö yet, will go next week. Since I will be staying for only one day (it will be a day trip from Copenhagen), I've bought the
stamps from the online shop.
For most of the covers/postcards I will send I've used two stamps. On some of the covers I wrote "air mail", is this acceptable too? Or I should just
write "prioritaire"?

Hi! I don't know if you've posted the cards yet. If you buy special foreign delivery stamps a PRIORITAIRE sticker usually comes with the stamps. If
not, you could ask for a prioritaire sticker if you're in a post office or a post agent ('postombud' in Swedish). If you're in a smaller shop, which I
guess you were since you bought two domestic stamps, you can just write PRIORITAIRE (the French term is your safest bet) somewhere reasonably close to
the stamps, i. e. in the top left area (N. B. not on the stamps themselves), and that would do.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think that what happens if one forgets to include PRIORITAIRE is that the mail is delivered as secondary/economy post;
the mail would arrive, but not as soon as you'd expect. So if you omitted PRIORITAIRE, it shouldn't be an issue. Nevertheless, I guess that 'Air mail'
would suffice. Even though French is the lingua franca of postal service, I suppose the Swedish post workers understood your intention.
Hope that helps. |
