Norway, Ålesund - September 7, 2013

Ok, since the meeting in March has been cancelled, let's arrange a meeting in the autumn instead!

COUNTRY: Norway
CITY/REGION: Ålesund
DATE: September 7
TIME: 10.00
LOCATION: Skateflukaia, outside MIX (right by the tourist office). Search for "Skateflukaia, Ålesund" at Google maps.

There's a nice view from Skateflukaia. After we've met there, I suggest we walk to a good postcard shop in Kongens Gate.

If you're interested, we can visit Jugendstilsenteret, Atlanterhavsparken and Fjellstua.

Coming:
Norway_girl
Depechechrissy
malfoya
Argenorge
Oliviarypdal
Rottetryne (+family)
ferdyaraujo (from Portugal)
KAS +1
mila_norge
Enkeli
Runarius
Lisa86 (?)
MaritS (?)
bustetroll (?)
Melise (?)
Diddelchen (?)
Dolphin8 (Romania) (?)
fire.maggie (USA) (?)

If some foreigners are interested in joining a meeting in Ålesund, here's some information.

Some key facts about Ålesund, and some info about Ålesund and Sunnmøre.

Some places I think is worth a visit in Ålesund:
Atlanterhavsparken, which has a daily scuba diver showwhere he is hand feeding the fishes
Fjellstua with an amazing view over the city and the surrounding area
Jugendstilsenteret

Hotels in/near Ålesund
Ålesund Airport has direct flights from the following airports
It's a possibility to travel by bus from for instance Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim with Nor-way bussekspress or combinate a visit in Ålesund with a voyage on Hurtigruten

I would keep the location, Ålesund is really attractive for this meeting. So far all dates are fine with me.

I would really love to visit Ålesund! It looks spectacular from the pictures and links you showed!

On the other hand, I also think Oslo can be another good option, not for the attractions themselves, but mainly because it's easily reachable from every city in Norway and also from other European cities.

About the dates, I just can suggest not to plan for August 31st, since there's the one at The Hague in the Netherlands. As for the rest, I don't have any restriction at the moment.

Yes, but maybe Ålesund is more attractive than Oslo? I am not sure which point is more important for potential visitors:)

Yes, I see the point that it might be easier to get to Oslo. But on the other hand, isn't a meeting in Ålesund a good excuse for getting the finger out and visit Ålesund??

Absolutely! I've never been to Ålesund and from what I see it's beautiful, so it can be VERY appealing :) !!

I was just pointed out that, considering from a "more practical" point of view, a city like Oslo can be more convenient in terms of people reaching the place.

I let the majority decide which is the best choice :)

As for me, it's also too early to say. I'm applying for a job these days, and don't know where I'll be moving to after May when I'm done with my studies.

But September should be fine, and I think Ålesund is fine as well as I've never been there before :)

Following this thread and hopefully I'll be joining in :)

I'm wondering if it would be an idea to send a message to active members on the main site, who aren't on the forum? Maybe we'd get more people to join?

In other countries the mail services would also help with bigger meetings. Maybe we should just tell Posten what Postcrossing is and maybe they help us with something. Most likely not, but ....:spin:

Just saying: what if Postcrossing official website can help promoting a Norwegian meetup so that it can catch the attention of other Norwegian Pcrossers?

Of course, it may raise the question: if they do for one Country, they should do for all the others...

Maybe Posten would be interested in making postcrossing stamps, like the Dutch postal service did?? Would be cool if they did and released them on the date of the meeting, with a special cancellation!! Most likely it will only be a dream, not a reality, but it wouldn't hurt asking!

Any other ideas for suggestion to Posten?

I just checked and there's 268 Norwegian memebers on the main site, which has been logged in within the last 3 months. If we sent each of them a message with an invitation, I bet we'd get at least a few to join the meeting!

And when we have the meeting, we could maybe get some newspapers to write about the meeting so that we get more Norwegian postcrossers?

I would love to be there! :) I'm starting at NTNU in august, so I don't know what kind of time (or money) I'll have on my hands, but I'll note the date. :)

I guess they will tell us to create "personlige frimerker" ourselves, which we could really do :)
http://www.posten.no/produkter-og-tjenester/brev-og-frimerker/perso...

But we could introduce Postcrossing to "Frimerkeposten", the collector's magazine. I think Posten is always complaining that they need to have such expensive stamps, because people are only sending e-mail nowadays. On the other hand they have no idea that there is a snail mail scene in their country, they could promote.

I think that would be a perfect place to promote Postcrossing. But I think it would be nice to reach out to those who doesn't collect stamps too, trough a newspaper or something. THat way, we could possibly get more Norwegian postcrossers.

Sorry, I'm a bit distant in this thread these days (bachelor writing and exams coming up), but I read everything you write :)

We could maybe talk to the local newspaper in Ålesund when it's getting closer to the meeting. I don't think the larger newspapers would write about this.. Ofcourse we can try to get them interested;)

"Personlige frimerker" is a good idea:) Maybe the PC-logo could be a motive?
