The mods when we come across multiple ones do this as well as sending a U2U to the member directing them to this discussion.

On one tag it's frequently 'upped' and it's always a couple of people who always do it (but never actually participate in the tag). The link to the tag is in my signature. They get really angry when nobody tags, like:

up!!!!

That makes me annoyed.

And it annoys the moderators as well.

I have put a message in that thread and removed the UP's

Any more problems please U2U me and let me know.

So, is it still ok to up the thread when I am the last who tagged another user? I don't confuse anyone as I am the one being tagged (anyway). I sometimes upped the tags I was last at. Is that ok or not? I am not sure after reading this discussion. Sorry if it is a stupid question.

pimennys, if you are the last one in a tag, you can make a new message by writing Tag xxx (<-- xxx=user name of the person you tagged) and then you just delete the old tag message of yours. That way you only twist the time when the last tag was actually made but it ups your tag and annoys less.

oh my that is so obvious I should have gotten that myself. what I did is was deleting my old up and replacing it by a new one O.o stupid.
But thanks for answering, that is a really good idea, I will keep that in mind. Upping is really not the nicest thing... so thanks :) won't do it again. :)

Shouldn't this be mentioned in the forum rules? I specifically checked them to see if bumping was allowed, and they had no mention about this, so I went & bumped a thread - which I naturally wouldn't have done if I only had known how negative the attitudes here towards that are. Clearly forbidding bumping of allowing in in the rules or even a mention that some people might not like it could really help prevent the kinda confusion also seen in this thread.
In many forums it is allowed and not everyone knows about the specific standards in here if they're not mentioned anywhere, so it's not fair accusing someone for doing it as they probably haven't known that it's not concidered acceptable.

Good point.

I have to admit the Forum rules haven't been reviewed or changed since they were first put up a few of years ago.

I agree, now there really is no way for people to know it's not acceptable! Well, unless they have found this thread, but that seems rather unlikely, if you are a new member.

But what can I do if one of my favorite tags is really shrinking down?Like no one tags more than a week but I have no cards to tag?

Once it's suggested that "UP" shouldn't be post less than one week,and I think it's a good idea...That wouldn't annoy so much:frog:

Use

https://forum.postcrossing.com/viewthread.php?tid=6553

to promote it.

And also a week is not a long time.

Although I do personally find "upping" annoying, what is the difference between people saying "up" and people saying "No one can tag me???". It is the same thing. They are just not saying "UP" but the intentions are the same.

You are correct. The following tag, with me as the last person, has had no activity since 9/29:

https://forum.postcrossing.com/viewthread.php?tid=2594

I tried promote this tag here:

https://forum.postcrossing.com/viewthread.php?tid=6553

...but I am still waiting for someone to tag me :( That's the way it is. I will tell you this: I will never tag a person who does an "up" because I think it's unfair.

i think there is no big difference between up and promote.......
everybody can does it, you don't do it, doesn;t mean it's unfair to you!
everybody wants to be tagged, this is natural. and up is what we do to try to get tagged, and this won't let a tag stuck easily
and i don't think who'll up in so many tags, most of the tags are easy to get tagged, if you up for once and no one tags you, then you can wait.

i think it would also be very thoughtful of people who get 'stuck' at the end of tags frequently to change something in their offers or wishlists, when they notice that they dont get tagged as quickly as some other users :) i sometimes remind users of that when the tag is stuck for couple of weeks, but as it is frowned upon i will stop doing that and let the tags be stuck :D

i do that too, sometimes its ignored and another option (if the thread is 'refreshed') is then that its more visible to people who are currently online and may see it and tag (which happened a few times) :)
