Update as of 25 Sep 13

Let's meet at 10:30 at the information desk. It is in the historic lobby, the hallway between the two sections of the museum. If you have any questions, please let me know.

See you on Saturday!!!

Update as of 9 Sep 13

Hello friends, :)

The meet up date is drawing ever nearer. I looks like we will have a good sized group, which is great. I have gotten a sneak peak at the new galleries and they are trés impressive. Can't wait for the ribbon cutting! Eeeeee. That means that if you have seen the museum before, there will still be loads of new things to see. I probably sound like a broken record at this point, but I will reiterate, if you are coming, please bring postcards with you if you wish to circulate any during the signing session. This is a bit counterintuitive since at most meet ups you shop for postcards then sign, but if you know the area where the museum is, you understand. Here are a few meet up postcard tips for anyone who may be wondering:

How many postcards should I bring? -- How many do you want to send? That is entirely up to you.

To whom am I sending meet up cards? -- Whomever you want! As officials? Sure! To your penpals? Yes! To your dog walker? Why not!? All of this is based on your wants and desires, I typically send to penpals and other friends I have made along the way via postcrossing. I think there may be a Meet Up postcard RR, but I am not a RR authority so you'll have to check if you are interested.

Note:
You can print addresses on labels and bring them with you. You can bring a pen and write them on day-of. You can leave them blank and sort it out when you get home......

Some people seem to be interested in a lot of guidance, but really, the meet up is what you want it to be, so send what you want, the way you want and if you are really unsure about something, go ahead and ask. Unless it is personal in nature and you really feel like it should be private, go ahead and ask any questions you amy have, here in the thread, because odds are, if you are curious about something, one or two other people have the exact same question.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello everyone,
I know, it has been nearly a year, where have the months gone? I have been meaning to create a new thread for about half of those months, but time always escapes me. I was terribly busy during the spring and as much as I wanted to, it just wasn't possible for me to coordinate a meet up then. All of that being said, the Washington DC (should have been) Semi-Annual Meet Up will be next month. I have coordinated with a few people offline and given the discussions, the next meet up will be on Sept 28th. The Gross Gallery (huge addition!!!!) at the Postal Museum will have it's grand opening the weekend prior, so everything will still be shiny and new. It is literally doubling the size of the museum and the number of galleries. Thank you, Mr. Gross, if I'm ever mega rich like you, I will donate to the Postal Museum as well. :) Ok, so I am trying to reserve a room for us to have a place to sit and sign without having to relocate from the museum, this is always a hurdle because there is nothing else conveniently located. If it doesn't work out, I am going to try for the following Saturday as a back up. I hope loads of people can make it, I'd love to see you guys again and meet new friends as well. The more, the merrier, so please sign up, specifics will follow in due course.
Happy Oh-My-Gosh-It's-Already August!!
hip-hip hooray!!! Worry not, as I typed that I thought, let's stick with 28 Sept anyway, so room or no room, we'll figure it out. Where there are postcrossers, this is a way! (my excessive optimism may be a result of sleep deprivation) *yawn*
Have fun this year! :)
I won't be able to make it, but don't feel sad--I am getting married on Sep 21 and we're also in the process of buying a house and hopefully will be moving by the end of Sep, sooooooo I don't think I'll be able to work the meeting in there. ;)
Still, I do aim to make it to another DC meeting one of these years! :D
I really hope you guys have a blast! I love going to meetups organized by ifthelensfits, but the 28th is when I am departing for Disney World. I'll just have to sulk at the Magic Kingdom for missing out on the meet-up. ;)
Why, thank you. I'm glad you have enjoyed them in the past. Sorry you won't be able to make it, but I wonder -- is it even possible to sulk in the Magic Kingdom? I mean, are there not anti-sulking rules or a Magic Wand that rids the place of all sulkability?
Yes, I made that word up. ;)
attending the DC meet-up
Hi Hilarie,
Great to see the chain! I'll make every effort to be there unless work keeps me away! Let us know what to bring (a few dozen cards enough?) and we'll come prepared...
Cheers, Matt
If they can not find space for you in the museum, why not go to union Station across the alleyway, and sit in one of the eateries or the food court? Just an idea. . .
It's always an option, but I would really rather not. Union Station is noisy and dirty and there is no guarantee that we'll find space for all of us to sit together. It would be a very unrelaxing experience I fear.
I am thinking we will meet late morning, 10:30-11:00-ish. I am be no means a morning person so I will not be expecting people to get up early on a Saturday. :)
If you make the meet-up closer to 11am, I can probably make it in time. Thinking of coming by train from NY (yes, that's how wow'd I am by your mad postcrossing meet up skills!). Have to see how things shake out, but it's looking pretty good right now.
The time might end up being 11, but if not, you can always show up "late" - the Postal Museum is right next to Union Station and you know what I look like, so you could find us in the museum. We could swap phone numbers to assist in that.
What time are we meeting?
I may not be seeing the answer on the thread - I still haven't gotten the hang of reading forum feeds, but what time will the meet-up start? Thanks!:)
