I have checked flights from Dublin and the cheapest I found was 170 Euro with changing in Southampton.

Not sure if I can afford this after going to London in one week.
Would love to come :D

Interesting. The ferry from Weymouth that day gives time in Guernsey from 14:00 to 18:10 and is apparently £30...
Now, if I could just figure out what to do with the kids on school holiday week... hahaha

Can't see a Poole ferry but maybe they don't go every day...

Oh I'd love to come, but 600 € for return from Frankfurt is just too much for my budget!!!
I'll look for alternatives and let you know.

Best wishes

Not sure about that... They're both autistic... They do impatience and loud...

There's a chance the younger one might be at his grandparents for the holidays (it's his birthday week), but not sure yet. That would leave the slightly more amenable 11 year old who hasn't been to Guernsey before... Won't know until closer to the date.

Hi all!

Quick heads up for anyone flying over here. You can often get much cheaper flights if you use aurigny (http://www.aurigny.com/) - a little bit of local knowledge for you!

I cannot wait for the meet up! I have already booked the day off work and am so excited to meet people!

Any Jersey/Weymouth members going?

And, Koala_Mon, do you have a list/map of all the best card shops??? Maybe they should be warned to stock up. Hahaha...

I've been twice... Once was a Sunday and the shops were closed, the other a Saturday, but by the time I'd finished geocaching and tried to visit souvenir shops (about 5pm), pretty much everything was closed...

Not an open all hours sort of place...

One or two of the stumbling blocks seem to have been sorted, but it's by no means certain I'll be there yet. I'm thinking of taking the plunge and buying the ferry ticket today, though, just in case they sell out or hike the price in the last week.

Could I just make sure first that's it's not going to be a morning meeting that I'll miss completely?

Hi! The time has now been set for 2pm, at the main post office.

Some people seemed to prefer an afternoon meeting because of work... I hope this works for everyone. We'll probably be around for most of the afternoon, so feel free to drop by a bit later, if this suits you better! :)

So looking forward to this! Not long now... :D

Have you got somewhere to sit down at the Post Office?

Crikey, that's quite a way from the town. I'd assumed you be at Smith Street PO.

Have any locals identified card shops out that way, or is everyone buying in town then going over to that PO?

@mousytrap:

Yes! Guernsey Post put aside their boardroom for us, so there will be space to sit down and chat.

I'm going to email Guernsey postcrossers with the details today, and ask for tips of places where to buy postcards! Actually, we'll be around the whole day, so if someone wants to get together to buy postcards and have lunch before 2pm, let us know - we'd be up for that! :)

From what I can make out it seems to be around 1.5km trot up from town, or bus 31 to go up, 51 to come back...

Hello from sunny guernsey! Just did some jiggling of work times that should allow me to get to the meet for 2.00pm. Not an easy place to get to but for anyone who does not mind a 10-15 min walk, any northbound bus that goes along the seafront , getting off at red lion pub and then walking inland from there will work. Buses.gg has timetable. I will be on scooter so can't offer anyone a lift. If anyone is interested in some postcards I have some limited run ones I had done when vista print used to do them cheaply and I sell my cards at 20 p each normally but for post crossers,15p. DM me if you need info. I see I am still triggergy on this forum but am now known usually as maisiecat.

Hi all!!

Don't worry - Envoy House is not far away from town really. A nice stroll or the buses go that way too (as Ana said). I will be walking and am happy to show anyone the way if they want to walk with me. It only looks a long way on the map as Guernsey is so small!!!

Okay, don't worry about not being able to find postcards! You can buy them EVERYWHERE. Some ideas though:

Bus terminus - there is a small kiosk there and also a local super market where you can buy postcards and stamps.
Market Square - there is a co-op supermarket where you can buy postcards and there is a small Post Office in the back to buy stamps.
Opposite the town church - a small newsagent with lots of postcard options!
Smith Street (leading off the High Street and up the hill opposite Boots chemist) - the Post Office (cards and stamps) and my personal favourite with TONS of cards and souvenirs The Press Shop. (It's awesome in there!)
Further down the High Street - there are a couple more souvenir/card shops.
On the seafront, at the far end of the High Street (near North Beach pier) there is also a Tourist Information shop with cards and stamps galore.

Hope this helps!! :)

Ana - I was wondering - will we be able to buy the Postcrossing stamp at the meet up? I am worried that most places won't stock it on release day and want to send the cards with it on (obviously hehe).

By the way - for those of you interested, most shops are open very reasonable hours 9am-5.30pm but co-ops and supermarkets will be open later (closer to 7pm).

Hi Monica,

Thank you for the info. I'd sort of assumed that the PO we're going to would have the stamps we need but clarification would be good. Is the philatelic counter based there? I'm keen to also get some of the other stamps being issued that day.

I have just taken the plunge and done my booking... so hopefully there wont be any flaws in my cunning plan, etc etc...

In case anyone else comes by that is going to travel from Weymouth too, I will be in the reclining seat section (a free upgrade), apparently at the back going over and halfway up that section coming back, both times aisle seats...

I imagine that by the time I've got from the ferry to the postcard shops and up to the PO, it's not likely to be any time before 3:30... Please don't run them out of stamps!!!!! Hahaha...

I just asked my bf (I have never actually been to that PO as normally the ones in town have all I need) but he seems to think that they would have everything there, which answers that question! I will have a mooch up there later this week and see what services they have on offer. They probably even sell postcards there too, which might save you some time!

I will check and get back to you all :)

Oh, if anyone wants to know any local info/best routes to take etc, feel free to ask. I will try to help!

So excited for this! So happy Ana organised it all :)

Hi Monica! Thanks for all the tips, they're really useful! We're really excited about it too! :D

And just to make it clear: yes, there will be stamps available at the post office, and there will also be someone there to cancel the stamps with the first-day cancellation! :)
